The summit experience
The main attraction is the wide Gulf of Fonseca panorama. Conditions can change quickly with cloud, wind and rain, so an early arrival improves your chance of clear views.
Access and transportation
The upper road can be steep and rough. Use an experienced local 4×4 operator rather than attempting it in a standard rental car. Confirm the meeting point, departure time, price and return arrangements before going.
Camping
Reserve the campsite or viewpoint in advance and ask what facilities, water, meals and equipment are included. Temperatures and wind can feel much cooler at night than along the coast.
Practical planning
Carry water, sun and rain protection, warm layers, a flashlight and cash. Avoid approaching cliffs in darkness and follow the operator’s safety boundaries.
