3 Days in El Salvador
A compact first-time itinerary combining San Salvador, a volcano or archaeological experience, and the Pacific surf coast.
Suggested route
Day 1: San Salvador
Explore the Historic Center, major plazas and Salvadoran food. Stay in the metropolitan area so you can start early the next morning.
Day 2: Volcano and crater lake
Choose Santa Ana Volcano with advance planning, or combine Cerro Verde viewpoints with Lake Coatepeque for a less strenuous day.
Day 3: La Libertad coast
Visit La Libertad and choose El Tunco, El Sunzal or El Zonte. Add a surf lesson, seafood meal or sunset before returning.
Adjust it to your interests
Use the itinerary planner to prioritize beaches, surfing, mountains, food and coffee, culture, ruins, nightlife, horseback riding or 4×4 experiences. A relaxed pace works best if you prefer long meals and hotel time; an active pace adds more stops each day.
Before departure
Confirm attraction hours, reservations, weather, road conditions and travel time. Avoid crossing the entire country repeatedly: group nearby destinations and use one accommodation base for consecutive days when practical.
